Biography:

Dr. Tom Lawrence is a professor of practice and coordinator for the mechanical engineering degree program at the University of Georgia. He has over 40 years of professional engineering experience. Before going back for his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, he spent approximately 20 of those years in the industry and consulting. Among his many roles of service to ASHRAE, Dr. Lawrence served as a Director-at-Large on the ASHRAE Board of Directors from 2016-2019; as past chair of ASHRAE Technical Committee 2.8, Building Environmental Impact and Sustainability; and has been since its inception a member of the committee that wrote and now maintains ASHRAE Standard 189.1 on high-performance green buildings. As an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer, he has given presentations and workshops on high-performance and smart buildings in 33 countries around the world.
