Heat Transfer Enhancement in MHD Flow over a Radially Shrinking Disk with Suction: A Comparative Study of Mono, Hybrid, and Ternary Hybrid Nanofluids.
Abstract:
This study presents a comparative investigation of Al₂O₃/water nanofluid, Al₂O₃–TiO₂/water hybrid nanofluid, and Cu–Al₂O₃–TiO₂/water ternary hybrid nanofluid for the problem of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stagnation-point flow past a radially shrinking disk in the presence of suction, magnetic field, thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, and convective boundary conditions. The resulting governing partial differential equations are reduced into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by employing similarity transformations, and then solved by means of the bvp4c solver. Dual solutions are found for certain intervals of the shrinking parameter, and suction is shown to increase solution stability by delaying the separation of the boundary layer. Comparatively, the local skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number for the ternary hybrid nanofluid are found to be higher than those of other fluids considered, showing better heat transfer performance. Moreover, optimization based on response surface methodology (RSM) shows that the local Nusselt number is maximized at low Eckert number, and high Biot number, radiation parameter, and magnetic parameter. The ternary hybrid nanofluid exhibits better heat transfer than the hybrid and base nanofluids at the optimum conditions
Biography:
Norihan Md Arifin is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the Faculty of Science, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). She obtained her PhD in Applied Mathematics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), her MSc in Industrial Mathematics from the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University (UK), and her BSc in Mathematics from UPM. She started her teaching career in UPM in October 1996 and has continued to be an active researcher in applied mathematics, namely fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer, convective Instability, and dynamical systems. She has authored over 350 journal papers, 103 conference proceedings, and 5 book chapters to date. Her H-index is 41 and has been cited over 6100 times, leaving a mark in the mathematical science community. She has organized 13 research studies of a value of RM878,686.79 and participated in 8 others, amounting to RM501,466.00, sponsored by national grants. Her works extend as far as internationally to Romania, Japan, India, Iraq, and Turkey, and locally to institutions such as Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka.
