Presentation Title:

Necessity and Role of Certified Exergy Managers in Establishing an Exergy-Based Management System Standard

Abstract:

: Building  a structure based on energy management system plays an essential role in increasing energy efficiency  in various sectors. In this regard,  different approaches to energy management system (EnMS) have been developed and proposed. Among these, ISO 50001:2018, which is the most recent Energy Management System Standard (EnMSS) with its first version published in 2011 has been widely used in many countries. Yasar University (YU) in Izmir, Turkey is the first university achieved TS EN ISO 50001:2011 Certification on 5 January 2016 in the country.

Although EnMSS has  been applied to various organizations since its publication, there are not any exergy management system standards (ExMSSs) issued yet. The author proposed an approach to ExMSS for the first time in one of his studies published in 2016.

Exergy-based analysis, assessment and comparison methods have proven to be powerful tools in the design, simulation, optimization and performance evaluation of energy systems. These methods have been applied to a wide range of systems or processes, namely from assessing the performance of investigators using an exergetic h-index (an exergetic academic footprint) to an energy-related system.

Energy managers have been certified based on different criteria for years while there are not any official programs for certification of exergy managers, excepting the first attempt made  within the scope of “2018 Summer Course on Exergy and Its Applications & Yasar University Certified Exergy Manager Program” to the best of the author’s knowledge. However, its widespread throughout the country has not yet been achieved.

In this conceptional talk, EnMSS will be shortly  introduced first. Next, some similarities and differences  between EnMMS issued  and ExMSS proposed will be explained. Exergy managers versus energy managers will be then highlighted. Finally, some sound concluding remarks will be listed.
