Presentation Title:

An Overview of Sensing and technologies supported future transportation management system in smart cities

Abstract:

The process of urbanization has dramatically promoted the modern economy and increased the human ability to transform nature and bring significant increases to the standard of living, including managing traffic congestion, safety, pollution, effectiveness, etc. A significant driver of developing future transportation systems is implementing the large series of sensors and microactuators into the systems that monitor and manage the transportation system. The paper’s overall objective is to define the areas, problems, tasks, and possible solutions for supporting total transport management by sensors widely integrated into the system. This paper provides i) a short description of the urban total transport systemand itsintelligent total transport managing system based on the hierarchical concept of vehicle and transport classification and ii) a definition of the competitive sensing technologies that might be integrated into the system for monitoring and management as elements of the Internet of Things. The applied methodology is based on identifying positioning and sensing requirements, defining the problems and tasks, searching, evaluating, and selecting the possible solutions. The results are related to developing the smart city, smart transport operation center, that may support the sub-centers as a harbor, or railway transport separately, too.
